Attorney Profile: Kent Gaertner

Kent Gaertner has practiced Bankruptcy Law for over 30 years. He represents clients in Chapters 7, 11, and 13 of the Code and in non-bankruptcy workouts and reorganizations. His clients include both consumers and businesses, debtors and well as creditors. He is experienced in all facets of bankruptcy litigation having represented both plaintiffs and defendants in lawsuits arising out of the bankruptcy process. Several of the cases in which he has represented litigants have been chosen for publication by the Bankruptcy Court.

Professionally, Mr. Gaertner is extremely active in the DuPage County Bar Association.  He is the Immediate Past President of the Association having served as its President from June 2009 until June 2010.  In June of 2010, Mr. Gaertner became the President of the DuPage County Bar Foundation (the charitable arm of the  DCBA).  He has previously served the Association as a Director for five years and has served on the Audit Committee, the Executive Board and is currently the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the DCBA. In that role he chairs the committee which interviews and recommends candidates for judicial positions in DuPage County.  He helped establish the first Bankruptcy Committee for the Association and served twice as its Chairman. 

Mr. Gaertner recently completed two terms as an elected Delegate to the Illinois State Bar Association Assembly from DuPage County.  He also serves as the Chair of the Bankruptcy Subcommittee of the ISBA Section Counsel on Commercial, Banking and Bankruptcy Law.  Mr. Gaertner is a regular contributor to "The Brief" magazine of the DuPage County Bar Association with articles on bankruptcy practice. He is a frequent speaker on bankruptcy topics at continuing legal education seminars for attorneys and has been selected as a moderator for bankruptcy related seminars given by the Illinois Institute For Continuing Legal Education.  He is also a member of the Kane County (Illinois) Bar Association and The Florida Bar.

Mr. Gaertner grew up in Naperville, IL. He is a graduate of Carthage College B.A. 1974, and Nova Southeastern University Law School J.D. 1977. He has served on various boards for community organizations including President, Westmont Kiwanis Club, Council, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard, IL. Nation Chief, Lombard YMCA Indian Guides, and Director, Chicago Central Suburban Men's Senior Baseball League. Since his retirement from the baseball field (after 40 years), Mr. Gaertner now pursues his passion for golf in his free time.
